The 5% Scholarship Allocation

As of March 1, 2018, Marquette University implemented a new giving policy that applies 5 percent of gifts directly toward immediate impact scholarship. The policy strengthens our ability to make Marquette’s distinctive educational experience as accessible as possible for deserving young men and women.

What size gift will make a difference?

Every gift is important. Last year alone, all commitments to Marquette of less than $250 totaled more than $1.1 million. Donors thinking about making their first gift to Marquette shouldn't underestimate the impact of a $50, $100, $250 or $500 gift.

What areas can I support?

You can choose to make an unrestricted gift to support the most pressing needs on campus, or you can designate your gift to student scholarships, a particular college or program, or Marquette athletics.

What is the difference between current-use and endowed scholarships?

Contributions to current use scholarships are used immediately to help meet the financial needs of current Marquette students. These scholarships are based on financial need and/or academic merit.

Endowed scholarships are maintained in a special fund, with annual investment earning used to fund scholarships. Donors must contribute a minimum of $100,000 to create a new endowed scholarship for undergraduates and a minimum of $50,000 to create a new endowed scholarship for graduate school or professional school students. Donors may contribute any amount to an existing endowed scholarship fund.

Does Marquette have a giving society?

Yes, the President's Society each year recognizes a special group of benefactors whose strong annual support helps us provide students with a transformative, Catholic and Jesuit education with a commitment to academic excellence. The society recognizes the generous contributions of those who make cash gifts of $2,500 to more than $25,000 to the university within a year (July 1 - June 30).
