ADVANCE THE HUMANITIES AT MARQUETTE UNIVERSITY
The Center for the Advancement of the Humanities is committed to developing, enhancing, and disseminating new approaches to the humanities, going beyond traditional boundaries in emphasizing collaboration and interdisciplinary across Marquette University and the community. It seeks to infuse the knowledge generated and methods developed in the humanities throughout the University, local, national, and international communities in ways consistent with Marquette University’s commitment to human well-being.
We aim to pursue this commitment through various initiatives:
- Support Teaching and Research in the humanities that is forward-looking, seeking new approaches to traditional humanistic disciplines. We aim to support undergraduate, graduate, and faculty research.
- Increase and Promote Visibility of the humanistic teaching, research, and creativity of students, faculty, and staff through the entire university community and beyond.
- Promote Collaboration through faculty and student affinity groups that cross disciplinary boundaries, interdisciplinary round-table discussions, and sponsoring interdisciplinary conferences.
- Pursue Public Engagement with emerging initiatives designed to connect humanities research and methodology with local, national, and international communities in ways consistent with Marquette University’s commitment to human well-being.
- Sponsor internationally known speakers, community projects, and public events.
- Publish, through the Marquette University Press, peer-reviewed humanities books that present a depth of knowledge in order to promote dialogue in traditional and emerging fields of inquiry.
- The Center has plans to develop a Fellows program, pursue opportunities to engage the public in discussions that are humanistically-inspired, and intends to be on the forefront of debates that require humanistic knowledge to enhance the common good of society in support of the Ignatian ideal of being for and with others.
